Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Strategy

Effective: First published September 2026 · reviewed and republished annually

Petrano Supply Inc. is a Canadian technical supplier distributing scientific instruments and industrial equipment. We measure, disclose and work to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of our operations and our supply chain. We quantify our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions each financial year using the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and publish the results on this page.

1. Our footprint, financial year ended 30 April 2026

Scope 1, direct combustion: 0.0 tCO2e. Petrano owns no vehicles, boilers or combustion equipment, assessed directly.

Scope 2, purchased electricity for the shared office premises in Winnipeg: under 0.1 tCO2e. Calculated as the office electricity share at the Manitoba Hydro grid factor; Manitoba generation is over 96 percent hydroelectric.

Scope 3, purchased goods for resale, freight, business travel and purchased services: 43.3 tCO2e. Spend-based method, GHG Protocol scope 3 categories 1, 4 and 6, applied to the audited FY2026 spend set out below.

Total: approximately 43.3 tCO2e, dominated almost entirely by scope 3, which is where a distribution business’s footprint genuinely sits.

2. Scope 3 method and inputs

Spend inputs from the compiled financial statements for the financial year ended 30 April 2026: purchased goods for resale, cost of sales, 564,956 CAD, GHG Protocol category 1; shipping, storage and operating purchases, 18,030 CAD, categories 1 and 4; business travel, 1,494 CAD, category 6.

Emission factor: US EPA Supply Chain GHG Emission Factors v1.3, NAICS 423490, Other Professional Equipment and Supplies Merchant Wholesalers, the classification covering scientific and laboratory instrument wholesale distribution, at 0.074 kg CO2e per 2022 US dollar of spend, with margins.

The factor is applied directly to Canadian dollar spend without currency adjustment. Because a Canadian dollar is worth less than a US dollar, this simplification overstates rather than understates our emissions, and we accept that conservative bias deliberately. Spend-based figures are screening estimates by nature; we will refine them with supplier-specific freight data as our data collection with logistics partners matures.

3. How we reduce

Freight consolidation. We combine shipments and choose sea or ground freight over air wherever the delivery schedule allows. Air freight is the most emission-intensive link in our chain.

Direct routing. We ship from the manufacturing site to the end destination wherever possible, removing intermediate warehousing legs.

Supplier selection. Where two offers are technically equal, we give preference to manufacturers with published environmental programmes and certified management systems.

Low-carbon operations. Our office runs on Manitoba’s hydroelectric grid, we operate paper-light, and we meet remotely by default, which keeps business travel low.

Annual review. We recalculate our footprint each financial year, publish it here, and set the following year’s actions against it.
